Feds to file lawsuit over Arizona immigration law
AP

The government will likely seek an injunction to delay the July 29 implementation of the law until the case is resolved.
The government contends that the Arizona law violates the supremacy clause of the Constitution, a legal theory that says federal laws override state laws. It is already illegal under federal law to be in the country illegally, although the punishment and enforcement tactics of the Arizona are much more severe.
Kris Kobach, the University of Missouri-Kansas City law professor who helped draft the Arizona law, said he's not surprised by the Justice Department's challenge but called it "unprecedented and unnecessary."

He noted that the law already is being challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union and other groups opposed to the new statute.

"The issue was already teed up in the courts. There's no reason for the Justice Department to get involve

  • It just amazes me (well, not really) that the federal government wants to stop their own laws from being enforced. With so many supporters of the AZ law, the government should feel a big backlash from this.

AZ is FEELING the backlash $$ from it. The feds don't want to stop their own laws, they want to stop the state from impeding on federal laws

  • One thing that is sad is that the American Government doesn't care about what a difficult time that people in the border states have been having.
They pay taxes and have been told for at least a decade noe, "Too bad, stinks to be you".
Then when they decide to help themselves, they get kicked in the azz.
"Pay, stay and LOVE IT, turds!"
Oh, and we AREN'T going to help you.
That makes Arizona, and the other border states, the losers, indefinitely.
They decided to do something about it.
Now their own government prefers illegals over them?
    Mr. Obama sucks.
    Sorry.

  • if i understand this correctly, the issue is that arizona is attempting to supercede the federal law by imposing additional rules that interfere with the civil rights of people in the state. illegal immigration is... already illegal. the arizona law seeks to interfere with people's right to privacy and not be racially targeted, etc. - these things are sending the country in the wrong (backwards) direction and in a dangerous direction. this is the issue. not whether people are soft on illegals, it's about not infringing on people's rights (how many different ways can i say this). i for one am glad that we don't take this sort of thing lightly - the infringement on rights part. it is just another form of racial discrimination disguised as patriotism
