Have you read the guidlines for the vote-down button?

Just curious because I had not until today and I assumed that you vote-down an answer if you disagree with it, but apparently that's not so.

  • Really cafemom cannot tell people why to vote up or vote down. So it wasn't very well thought out on their part if they intended it to be used like the "report" button. Members are going to use it to reflect opinions, or things they agree/disagree on.

  • "The good news is that downvoting isn't really being used to get rid of unpopular opinions."

From the link. Seems to be outdated now since at that time, only 138 users had the ability to down vote.

  • "In order to make downvoting valuable (and also to try to make it not used to get rid of things that participants disagree with, as opposed to things that are actually wrong/bad) we heavily limited the number of downvotes that everyone gets"

This is dumb... First they say that not many ppl use their downvotes then they say to get rid of ppl downvoting an opinion that differs from theirs, they limit the amount available.

If someone doesnt want to SEE a response... then they shouldnt READ IT...

i see no reason for this down voting.

they don't really have a way of monitoring "guidelines" for something like that. It's more like hopes you'd use it that way...
