  • usually need 20% but there are some loan programs for first time buyers that require less. Check with some banks, mortgage brokers, and realtors.

  • A great down payment is 20-25%, a good down payment is 10-15%. Don't wipe out your savings on a down payment though. Make sure you have enough to move it, fix it up/decorate, and have extra in case of emergencies or lay offs.

  • i agree with other 20% or more..depending on what you want your payment to be...don't forget to include taxes and insurance when thinking about house payments!

  • 20% That way you start with equity and you have something invested in the house instead of the bank owning the entire thing.
