Can school uniforms be used as a tax deduction when you file your taxes?

  • In Louisiana, we can. My son goes to a public middle school with uniforms. They asked what I spent on uniforms and supplies.

  • I don't think so, unless the uniforms are so specific you couldn't wear them as street wear. Most school dress codes are khakis and solid color polo shirts.

  • I'm pretty sure you can only deduct expenses from school it if is for a college or technical school. Private is school is so optional so you cannot deduct, maybe in your state it is allowed though.

  • I so wish. My kids attend PUBLIC school and uniforms are required dress code.
