Environmental Engineer Watches Crews Dump Sand Over Oil

Wathen of Tuscaloosa, has been investigating environmental complaints for 15 years. He recently documented crews on the beach burying oil with new sand. It happened at Orange Beach, although Wathen suspects it may be happening at beaches all along the coast.
He found his latest work as crews reported to work just after dark on July 3rd, when big lights went up, and heavy equipment moved in. He says he watched as those crews moved sand from big piles and shoved it toward the beach in an effort to cover up oil stains.
He also believes much of the beach being buried are nesting areas for sea turtles. "They are doing it in an attempt to appease the tourists," he says.
Wathen's pictures have been posted on a couple of websites, including a Facebook page maintained by the Florida group 'Save Our Shores.'

This just keeps getting worse and worse! WHO is holding these people accountable? ANYONE?

  • Its pretty sad! I just dont understand why this doesnt seem like a bigger deal to the rest of the country. If something happened in Thailand their would be HUGE named artists gathering together to raise funds and awareness.

    Why not here!!!???

  • And now you know why the Obama administration has blocked reporters from being down there

You called that one right, Nates! And yet, it appears that some don't want to see the truth right in front of their eyes! It is a fact that reporters, journalists, and the like are banned from the areas, ( it has been reported on by Anderson Cooper of CNN so it MUST be true!), and then we hear about THIS kind of cover-up (literally a cover-up!), simple math, here. Add the facts up yourself! Stop with the free passes, already! Even IF Obama didn't order this action to be done, he is certainly aware of it, since he IS on top of things, and has been from Day 1. He is "on top of this situation", isn't he? So he has to be aware of what is going on down there with the clean-up, HIS agencies are the ones approving (or not) of the methods being used......Add it up!

  • Well, no one is of course. Since Obama took over things have gotten worse. Now he has taken over any and all media regarding the spill so don't expect to get the truth from now on. You will be lucky to get any information period.

  • You know those commercials that say if you see something say something. I think the same should be true of anything that isn't right about this whole environmental disaster. Everyone is going to be affected by it somewhere down the line, at some point in time. The environment is our source of food, wildlife and all the ecosystems that are all being affected by "big mistakes"Pollution takes years to clean up and the reminder of it's happening usually last a lifetime.

EXACTLY!!! Do I smell a governmental cover up?! You know, like BUSH was accused of repeatedly since 9/11?! It's certainly possible, since Obama is also seen as incompetent (by conservatives and those with a brain stem) and yet a mastermind (by progressives and liberals) at the same time!! LOL :o)

  • I am sick about this! I don't think the oceans will ever fully recover, and I doubt that we'll see the Gulf of Mexico back to normal in our lifetimes. This has the potential to be a global disaster.

  • Accountability should start from the top and trickle down. If BP and the US Federal Government have NO ACCOUNTABILITY, how can we expect others to work to higher standards?
