Federal law vs state law...

Why is it that CA can pass a law legalizing pot and the federal government doesn't do anything about it EVEN THOUGH it clearly goes against federal law but, AZ passes an immigration law that is for the good of it's CITIZENS and the federal government is ready to sue? Yes, I know the pot law hasn't been passed but, it will be in November.

  • Because Obama needs the pot smokers and the illegals to vote for him in 2012.

  • Maybe b/c in some way the government will be able to make money off both the legalization of pot and the illegal immigrants.

  • Well, I would have to say these are WAY two different issues... Pot was illegalized simply to make the rich man richer - not for all the health reasons they want to shove down our throats today... And AZs immigration law goes against so many race laws it's sick... One was put in to place simply for greed reasons, but it really didn't hurt anyone. And one was put in to place simply to hurt others... BIG difference!

And just as a note - This LEGAL citizen who doesn't smoke pot will be voting OBAMA every chance she gets! And so will my DH - who is also legal & sober...

  • Because the Arizona law authorizes local law enforcement to "deal" with immigration and deportation concerns when that is something that the INS (a federal agency) is in charge of. It's like putting local cops in charge of something the FBI is supposed to be in charge of.
