  • It's an elective cosmetic procedure. Different people will have different opinions though. It's sometimes a controversial issue.

  • 85% of the worlds men aren't circumcised. Circymcision does not prevent utis or cervical cancer, it does not prevent stds, it is not cleaner. It is completely cosmetic unless there is a preexisting medical condition. Foreskin is partof the sexual has a function.

  • IMO it is unnecessary, unless for religious reasons. There is no studies to back up the claim that a circ. is more clean than an un-circ.

  • "I think its a very personal decision that parents need to make for themselves."

I think it is such a personal choice that you should not make it for another human being.

  • The foreskin is no more "just a flap of skin" than your labia. Would you feel maimed if I removed them? How about your clitoral hood? You could survive without it, but how would you feel if that were removed? How about the appendix? You can live without that. Everyone thinks the appendix has no function because its not a flashy organ like the heart. That isn't true though. In fact, we now now that it serves an immune function. They no longer routinely remove the appendix.

The foreskin has a function and purpose. It is a protective organ like the eye lid. Removing it changes the penis. That's a fact. An intact males penis is like the mucosal membranes in the mouth, a circumcised man's penis is dry like velvet. Even the mechanics of how the two men masturbate is different. An intact male brings his own lubrication to intercourse. The foreskin isn't useless, it HAS a function.

  • this is going to start a heated debate..... i personally had my son cicumsized for my own reasons. i don't bash ppl who don't so i expect the same respect for my decision to do so

  • There is NO medical reason to routinely circumcise baby boys.;103/3/686

Would you circumcise your daughter? No? Because it's barbaric, right? Genital mutilation? Yes? So WHY would you subject your beautiful, new, baby boy to that? Didn't God* make him as he should be? Didn't you just spend NINE MONTHS growing him/ Why would you let people cut body parts off? You're supposed to PROTECT HIM.

Male Genital Mutilation should be outlawed.

*or nature, or whatever you believe in.

  • You have to cirumcise 100,000 infants to protect one old man from penile cancer. The benefits for a slightly reduced UTI in infant boys is gone in the first few months to a year. A large proportion of america men are circumcised yet there is still stds and hiv infection. cervical ancer is now know to be caused by a virus. circumcised men get thruh and ar often asymptomatic. minor medical issues with foreskin are caused by wrongly forcing it o retract and other issues can usually be easily remedied. Circumcised penises aren't problem free.

smegma is not dirt any more than the self cleaning vaginal secretions. the cure for poor hygiene is a good old fashioned shower. condoms and abstinance prevent stds. It is true you can't get inflammation of the foreskin without foreskin, but that's like preventing cavities or discoloration of enamel by yanking out healthy teeth!

  • "The glans is intended by nature to be a protected internal organ, like the female clitoris" - (quote copied from point #2)

So circumcision CAN be equated to female circumcision, when the clitoral hood is removed. The only difference? They call it Female Genital Mutilation when it's done to a girl, but routine infant circumcision when it's done to a boy.

Here is a list of 20 functions of the foreskin...which in my humble opinion makes it an essential part of the penis.

  • it is not a painless procedure, any more than an episiotomy is a painless little cut, and doesn't protect from things unlikely to happen in the first place. 85% of intact men can't be all suffering. it makes no sense. if the risk for you is high, fine. but your info even about cervical cancer is wrong. you also brush off the real function purpose of the foreskin. it has parts and purpose, what purpose does it serve to deny that? what about botched circs? Too tight circs? circ infections? men who want theirs back? an intact man having to explain he's not unclean to american women?
