fondant question

Can I just frost a cake with regular frosting and then add fondant shapes (hearts etc) to it, or does it HAVE to have fondant all over it?

  • You can frost with buttercream and add fondant accents and decorations. If your buttercream crusts before you apply the fondant, then use a small paintbrush to brush water on the back of your fondant. It will help it stick.

  • No you can use the fondant shapes on holds them well in place...and on the fancy cake-shows they often puts a thin layer of frosting on, to glue the fondant in place.

  • Fondant just makes the cake look smooth and flawless. It tastes awful so I'd choose a non perfectly smooth delicious cake over a Fondant perfect nasty cake any day!

  • We just made a fondant cake tonight. We used frosting because we didn't have enough fondant.
