Is it normal that my 5 and a half year old hasn't lost a tooth yet?

My kid hasn't lost any primary teeth and none are loose! I was 4 when I lost two front teeth at once. Is this weird? Should I be concerned?

  • I would not be concerned. Each child loose teeth at there own time. My daughter lost her 1st one when she was 7.

  • My dd is 6 and a half, and she still hasn't lost any and none are loose. I was older when I started to lose mine as well, so I guess it is just different for everyone.

  • I hope so! Mine is also 5 1/2 and hasn't got any loose ones either. But, I didn't loose any until I was 6 and knocked a couple out. I think it's different for all kids and the range is pretty big.

  • My kids were all in first grade (6, almost 6 and a half) when they lost their first teeth. My youngest was almost 7 when she lost hers.

  • From my experience they usually start getting loose around the age of 6.

My oldest lost her first a couple months after turning 6 (just like her best friend).  My son was a month shy of turning 6 and my middle daughter was 5 1/2.  My 4yo has no signs of loose teeth and I don't expect her to for another couple of years.

It also depends some on when the teeth came in.  Although my middle daughter was a late teether and threw that out the window.  She didn't get her first tooth until she was 1 but lost hers earlier than the other kids.  Now that was strange.
