Any suggestions on how to down dress my 11 year old daughter who is "built" like most 16 year olds. It is so hard to find less revealing clothing in the junior sections! Help!

  • I wonder if wearing a tank top under the more revealing tops would help. Unless she would be inclined to slip the tank off when not around you. It seems as though it would be unusual behavior for an 11 year old, though.

  • no kidding.. these days girls are showing a bit too much.. damn TV lol! I say go shopping together and have her try on clothes in front of you that way you both can agree on what she could wear, if it dont meet with your standards tell her to try something else.

  • Why not just simple t-shirts from American Eagle and jeans or capris? Aeropostale had some great looking and feeling shorts and they actually came in different lengths. They looked like fleece, but weren't as heavy. I am sure they are all marked down right now.

  • My mom always took me shopping with her - we would try on outfits and they had to meet her approval before she would buy them. But really there is no way to hide your daughter's body other than making sure the shirts aren't too clingy (which most of them today are cut VERY small, so you may need to buy a larger size). Layering tank tops as a pp suggested will help too, and I would steer towards the longer shorts that are popular now.

  • Our DD has the same problem. She's 12 and BIGGER than me in ALL regards. Taller (by 6") heavier (by 15 lbs) and bigger busted (her: 36B me: 34A). She wears a size 12 clothing, I wear a size 10. I ALWAYS preview her clothing before we purchase it. We have rules around here: not too short, not too low cut, not too clingy, not too see-through.

  • if the neck line scoops too low then I go with a cami or tank underneath it. Also if she is shorter but bigger busted go over to the petite section and get some stuff in larger sizes. I never live by the label. Its all about the fit :)

  • My oldest had the same issues. She always wears a tank or cami under her t-shirts and we buy them a size larger to help not be quite so clingy. Mnay times she will also wear a button down shirt over the t-shirt as a jacket.
