  • depends on the age, but you can write rhyming clues for a treasure hunt that ends with them finding an inexpensive treat: a handmade certificate for ice cream, for example

    board games

    go to the beach

    go to the park

    go on a hike

  • Go to the park - Go to the library -

Many bookstores have a story time a few days a week - I don't know how old your children are - but you could check into that. Libraries do summer reading programs as well.

  • Parks and nature walks are great! Free museums are too if you have any locally. Our movie theatres also offer free movies one day per week for kids.

  • We are members of the local kids museum for just that reason - of course it isn't free, but on any individual day when we need something to do and have no extra cash, it's free that day!
Go to a park, check out local museums (most have free admission on certain days), make a scavenger hunt, find a creek, google homemade crafts to make out of household items...

  • We grab a blanket, some cold drinks from home, a $5 footlong sub, and hit the park for the afternoon. I take a book and they run around burning off excess energy.
