Do you think this is abuse?

A friend of mine said the other day that she thinks that when someone smokes cigarettes in their home, with their children present, that it's a form of child abuse. I don't smoke at all, and I would definitely never smoke around my son if I did...but would it be a form of abuse if someone did?

  • Coming from a smoker... I'm not sure it's really abuse. I'd consider it more neglect. I think it should be illegal to smoke in confined spaces with children present. The thought of people smoking in a room with a newborn horrifies me. Once again, I smoke. But I will not and do not visit people who smoke in their homes. I don't smoke in my home or around my children. They know I smoke but I don't make them breathe my fumes.

  • I don't think so. I grew up with parents that smoked around us and don't consider it abuse. Unhealthy yes abuse no.

  • I have asthma but I inherited that. Still don't consider it abuse. Well if they held the child down and blew in their faces then I would say yes abuse.

  • I don't think it's abuse. Poor judgment, definitely. I don't smoke, BTW.
