  • I'm envious too... My mom and both of Dh's parent's passed away and my dad is not able to watch the kids. We don't have family near by. I always see posts where people complain how their parent's spoil their kids or that they have issues with their mother in law, etc., and I always think about how lucky they are and those problems are really so small. I wish my kids had their grandparents in their life.

  • Yep. When my husband and I were still together we lived a five hour drive, and hour and a half ferry ride and another hour and a half drive from my parents....so we didn't have the luxury of a babysitter either.

Now we're separated and I'm a single mom who gets no time away. Lol. Oh well.

  • Not really, I live 300 miles from my family (and Dh's) and everyone I really trusted to watch my kids had moved before DH deployed. So we worked around it. If you really want time alone you can make time. We have 3 kids under 4 and we found ways.

  • Heck yeah. I love my kids, but I'd like a chance to miss them. I'd love to go out with hubby. Even when we lived 2 blocks from MIL, she wouldn't do it. She only started wanting to watch ours when my SIL had a daughter she never wanted to watch, so MIL would watch her and figured it's easier with 2, so then she wanted to watch just our daughter (not our son) when she had to watch the other girl. Yeah, we told her NO. My parents live farther away, so they get a pass.

  • my kids are older now- teens and yet we STILL don't ever go out...he's too much of a hermit now!
but when they were younger I would always wonder how do you sign up for that when poeple would talk about getting rid of their kids for a week or a summer or even over-night or for a few hours.
My mom who lived in the same city-took my daughter for the night when my son was born. She took them both one afternoon so hubby and I could go to a movie on our anniversary. His mom lived in another state so she NEVER had them.
I had a friend babysitt ONCE also on our anniversary so we could see a movie.
Other than that-they were with us all the time and for everything we did until they hit like 1st grade-then sometimes we'd get lunch without them
