Did the angels have free will?

Does anyone know if the angels had free will or not? And can you please provide biblical verses to back it up? Thank you.

  • I would hope so, other wise Satan was damed by God's deciding he would disobey, not by his own desire and decisions to rebel. Hubby says they have limited free will according to Christian Mythos, whatever that means.

  • I think they do, I can't know for sure, and the Bible doesn't make specific references about what it's like to be an angel.  Yes the Biblementions angels in Heaven a lot, but mostly we have to infer what it is really like to be an angel.  As the previous poster said the Bible does mention Satan who acted on his own.

  • If they didn't would Satan & his followers have been able to rebel?

So I would think they had/have to.

  • Lucifer and his followers prove that they did and still do. He made a concious decision to be himself and not pretend for anyone else. A good role model, IMO.

  • Every religion has a different belief. Some Christian denominations believe that angels do have free will. Other religions, like Judaism, believe angles have no free will and that's why we don't believe in the devil, because no angel could go agasint G-d's will. We believe free will is exclusive to humans.

  • It depends on the religion, but most christian religions believe that they do have free will, and can choose to act as they wish. ie. Lucifer...all the other angels chose to believe God...Lucifer chose to question him.
