Would you let your child have a penpal?

I was a part of a few penpal groups on Yahoo and AOL when I was pregnant with The Baby Sister, as she's called, lol. A few of my penpal buddies had children the same age as ODD, and we made a real effort to swap birthday cards for the kiddos. Sure, it didn't really matter to them, but they always seemed to enjoy the stickers or crayons or whatever little bs things we'd put in the envelopes. :)

So, would you let your child have a "penpal" like this? Or would it be too much extra trouble that you wouldn't want to deal with?

  • I used to have penpals when I was growing up. I think that is great that people still do that! When my son is older, if he wants one, you bet I will let him. It is good writing practice, and it is fun to get mail.

  • Sure. I had a penpal who lived in England when I was in 4th grade. Our teacher gave us a list of kids from other countries and I chose her. We wrote for many years. It was so much fun!
