  • I am really shy most days (some days I am not at all) but I typically just try not to look at anyone in fear of someone saying hi.

  • I don't usually speak but I will offer a smile and hold open doors. I also am sure to say thank you when people do the same for me!

  • Not saying hello doesn't equate to not being "nice". It may mean they are super busy or have a lot on their mind or are very shy. There could be any reason why. Why are you assuming things about people?
If they don't hold a door, or give you a nasty look when YOU say hello or try to push you out of line, then yes I'd say they may lack some manners. but again, those things could be offshoots of someone having a really bad day as well.

  • I think some of this is cultural......even in different regions of this country the norms my experience most people who come across as rude or stuck up are really just shy and/or ill at ease....

  • This can also be regional I think different parts of the country might be more chatty with strangers then others.
