Has anyone craved chalk, dirt or anything thats not food and actually ate it?

I am currently 31 weeks pregnant and have been craving chalk. I also love the smell of pine sol. It makes my mouth water. I haven't tried either but I atleast wanna try the chalk. Has this happened to anyone and you actually ate it? When I was pregnant with my second child I craved Kitty Litter not like dirty kitty litter but fresh and in the box. It took alot to see my husband pour it into the litter box and not take a spoon and eat it, My doctor told me I was anemic and had to take iron pills. My doctor did blood work on me and has not said anything about me being anemic. Could this be a health issue or is it just a weird pregnancy crave? has anyone ever ate a weird craving like this?

  • could it be that you crave the texture rather than the actual taste?

  • I think that means you are iron deficient. I could be off, but ask your doctor just to make sure you are getting a healthy diet and taking prenatal vitamins. :)

  • I've heard of this in pregnant women but no, I've never personally had any non-food cravings.

  • It's called PICA if I remember correctly, and the situation needs to be discussed with your doctor. It usually means a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

  • yeah, maybe I can be craving the texture not so much the taste.......that actually sounds more like what I want. Cause chalk doesn't sound appealing the texture does.

  • It's not pica... this is something specific to pregnant woman and chalk is a common one... people with pica have it their whole lives and eat ALL kinds of inedible things.
