  • i have 2 maltipoo x shihzuhs...and to be perfectly honest with you, they were both so frickin hard to housebreak!!! it took months!!!! and my carpets are they were being taken outside every hour..but as soon as we came inside, 5 minutes later they would pee/poo..soooo not cool!! it, no joke, took 7-8 months until they finally completely stopped!! maybe cuz we had 2 it was harder, i dunno..but i had never had so much problems with these 2 small dogs..i had never had small dogs before..i always had german sheppards, huskies, golden retreivers etc..and they all enerv did in the house, even when they were thought it was a small dog

  • My mom might answer this....but from my perspective those small dogs are hard to train.

She has owned several dogs, so she knows the drill, but those small ones seem super hard to train !!!

They are like the pp's dog mentioned.

  • Its the same with a mutt as it is with a purebred. Take the dog outside every hour. Stay outside with them for at least 15 minutes. DO NOT leave the dog outside alone, you won't be able to praise if the dog pees outside. If it doesn't pee, back inside, in a crate until the next hour is up. Outside again...praise, praise, praise when the dog pees/poops outside.

  • Talk to them like a child. "let's go outside" "let's go potty" lots of praise when they go. Catch them in the act inside," no no go outside" & take them outside immediately. Use treats to reward them.

I have 3 terriers. It's taken 2 months to train my youngest jack russell terrier. She is 3 1/2 months old. She's now completely housebroken. The key is to establish a line of communication with your pups.

  • i dont have a malti-poo but i have a chi-poo and he knows to go outside but he has a mind of his own and goes where he pleases. i think small breeds are harder they all have lil man syndrome :]
