Does the Christian God

test people?
I read an answer in another question and the person said that God allows the devil to test people.
I have also had people tell me that God never "tests people"
so...
what do you think

  • "God allows evil to exist because He knows that those who love and follow HIM, will not follow evil in the first place. "

Huh? This makes no sense. IF your god KNOWS his followers won't "follow" evil in the first place, then what is the purposes of evils existance, other than to test and confuse you then?

  • No. Life tests us, but no gods ever do. They would have to exist first.

  • Nope. He doesn't. God allows evil to exist because He knows that those who love and follow HIM, will not follow evil in the first place.

  • God most definitely allows us to be tested. Look at Job. God allowed Satan to "test" him in any way he chose except that he wasn't permitted to actually take his life. Through hardships, tests & trials, we as Christians learn that in our weakness, God comes in and becomes our strength if we allow Him to. God always provides us with a way out or a rescue. The Bible, however, does say we are not to test God EXCEPT in our giving. We are not to test God, but He most definitely tests us in order to show His glory & build our faith & trust in Him. That is why the Bible says He will never allow us to be tested beyond that which we can bear. However, God never tempts us as in temps us to sin. Or tempts us in any way that would cause us to sin. Testing & tempting are different things entirely.

  • I believe that God doesn't really have power over all the bad things that may happen to us, that is because of people's free will, and he can deliver us from the bad times if we ask and if we reach out to him. But I do believe that when we become prideful and step away from God he can place challenges in our way to bring us closer to him, people never become closer to God than when things get difficult. It could be to strip us of our pride and get us to depend on him, or to make us useable for his work or his will. When God presented Jonah with a request, Jonah was scared and didn't want to do God's will, so he ran, well then God placed many challenges in his way including getting swallowed by the whale, where he was at his bottom rung and called out to God, then God saved him and Jonah submitted to God's will and he was blessed greatly after.

  • I do not believe that God places "tests" in our paths. I believe that our freedom of choice in any situation is often what puts these obstacles in front of us, but then we have to choose whether to follow the Christian path or not. I believe every Christian faces obstacles, and the way we handle them is what can truly define how true our relationship with God is.

  • You have to keep in mind that the Old Testament no longer applies after Jesus gave his life for us.

  • He ALLOWS us to be tested but does NOT DO THE TESTING. He leaves it up to us how we decide and still, even with poor choices, puts Good things in our paths to help us along.
