I read an answer in another question and the person said that God allows the devil to test people.
I have also had people tell me that God never "tests people"
what do you think

I believe that God doesn't really have power over all the bad things that may happen to us, that is because of people's free will, and he can deliver us from the bad times if we ask and if we reach out to him. But I do believe that when we become prideful and step away from God he can place challenges in our way to bring us closer to him, people never become closer to God than when things get difficult. It could be to strip us of our pride and get us to depend on him, or to make us useable for his work or his will. When God presented Jonah with a request, Jonah was scared and didn't want to do God's will, so he ran, well then God placed many challenges in his way including getting swallowed by the whale, where he was at his bottom rung and called out to God, then God saved him and Jonah submitted to God's will and he was blessed greatly after.

- Jer 17:10 (NASB) "I, the Lord, search (EXAMINE) the HEART, I TEST THE MIND"
- Job 7:18 "You EXAMINE us every Morning & TEST us every moment"
- James 1:12 "God blesses those who Patiently Endure TESTING and TEMPTATION. Afterward they will receive the CROWN OF LIFE that God has promised to those who love him."
