Any suggestions on sites or books on cooking with kids?

I have 2 kids ages 4 and 8 who love "helping" me in the kitchen.

  • They can really help with everything if you have the patience. The other day my daughter helped me bread chicken. She dipped it in the egg, then the bread crumbs. I put it in the pan. It just makes everything take twice as long. My kids love to add seasoning. I'll give them the pepper shaker, garlic, oregano, ... whatever and let them go to town.

  • PS-My 3 y/o helps in the kitchen a lot. He can crack eggs, stir anything, pour things in that I have measured, etc. He uses an egg slicer when we need chopped eggs for pea salad or egg salad or tuna salad, etc. He uses a food chopper to help chop veggies for casseroles. He LOVES helping mom cook! :)

  • The Disney cookbook is cute for kids.. they can get excited about making those recipes. I would just order it from the library to see if they like it first

  • My 7-year-old daughter has the Disney's Magic Cookbook, too, and she loves it. She also has Paula Deen's My First Cookbook.

  • We have the Star Wars Cookbook, Sesame Street Cookbook and Rachel Ray's Cooking with Kids. I don't consider any of the 3 to be especially health-conscious, but they have lots of basics and you can modify them with healthier ingredients as needed. DS loves the Sesame Street one - and a few weeks ago changed up one of the recipes enough that he now officially has "invented" his own "secret recipe" (which he then proceeded to share with everyone he knew).
