If my Cats are INSIDE ONLY, then why do you have bad feelings towards declawing?

  • just like anything else on cm, people have alot of opinions lol. i personally have a degree in animal science and have worked in alot of different settings (ie. vets, zoo keeper, and worked on a couple of different types of farms). i don't think it's inhumane. it's an amputation done under anesthesia. the recovery is quick and there is not any loss of mobility afterwards. and to the person who answered the other question saying that they amputate all 20 digits.... no vet will do that. declaw is front paws only.... they will not do the back claws.

  • Because what if they get outside. How are they to protect themselves from animals bigger than them?

  • because it's a horrifying and very painful procure for the cat-
and why a person does it-
what it done because the cat hurt someone, or because they wanted to keep furniture in good condition?

  • If they could just remove the claws it might be OK, but they cut off the first joint of the cat's paw. That's like cutting back to the first knuckle on your finger.

  • I personally don't. It's no worse than spaying or neutering IMO. Or the people that cut off their dogs' ears or tail for cosmetic reasons.

  • I do think its cruel. Here is a good article, it would be a good idea to read up on it before making any decisions. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/774567/why_declawing_cats_is_cruel_and_unnecessary.html?cat=53

Actually that is not true our local vets will do it, personally i have never declawed a cat but I do know people who have had both front and back done on their cats.

  • Because it's a very invasive procedure akin to you having all of your fingers removed. It completely removes all of their defenses. And it's largely unnecessary.
