BP froze all activity, said more analysis was needed....Thoughts?

NEW ORLEANS – BP froze activity on two key projects Wednesday meant to choke off the flow of oil billowing from its broken well in the Gulf of Mexico after days of moving confidently toward controlling the crisis.

The development was a stunning setback after the oil giant finally seemed to be on track following nearly three months of failed attempts to stop the spill, which has sullied beaches from Florida to Texas and decimated the multibillion dollar fishing industry.

The oil giant and the government said more analysis was needed before testing could proceed on a new temporary well cap — the best hope since April of stopping the geyser. Work on a permanent fix, relief wells that will plug the spill from below with mud and cement, also was halted.

  • This could ave been stopped a LOOOOOOOONG time ago but since BP was left in charge (Fox guarding the hen house) and it was NOT to their financial benefit to collapse and seal it immediately they didnt. NOW it's out of control! And I am SOOO pissed at ALL the news organizations and celebrities and politicians who seem to be SO nonchalant about it all! They would bust their BUTTS to get help and aid and technology to Other countries but here we we just left to be screwed....fantastic! Jimmy Buffet performed a free concert to benefit those down here and TRY and bring in tourists...instead Kenny Chesney and Zack brown band dropped out and NO ONE could clear a schedule to come down...but for the Tsunami they dropped EVERYTHING. And now Northrup Gruman is closing down a New Orleans factory and 5,000 MORE people will be with out jobs ON TOP OF the IDIOT in charge shutting down rigs...MORE unemployment......fanfreakintastic!

Oil continued to spew nearly unimpeded into the water, with no clear timeline on when it would stop.shares were down 2.5 percent in afternoon trading in London after recouping some of their oil spill losses earlier this week, when the cap project seemed to be moving ahead.

  • I keep wondering, "Cui Bono?" and I can't figure it out. It doesn't make any sense that this hasn't been stopped, that we haven't availed ourselves of the Dutch model or technology...
