How far past the date

do you consume
Milk- til it smells
Cheese- I cut off any mold and eat the rest
Canned goods- til they look or smell bad
frozen goods-if they aren't freezer burned they're game
yogurt- til it looks or smells funny

To me the date is a suggestion or sell by date not a rule.

  • I have 2 teens so no food in my house except yogurt ever comes close to the expiration date.

  • Nothing gets to that point in my house. I buy for the week only.

  • Thank you to NotPanicking for the link. In my house, milk is consumed quickly so it never gets to the date. I don't worry about dates on canned or frozen goods because they already have preservatives in them. I will toss eggs if they are two weeks past the use by date.
