How can you politely get off the phone?

I have a friend that I really care about in another state but everytime she calls me I can't get her off the phone. What would be a polite way to get off the phone with her. I had to tell her 3 times today and she just kept talking!! Any suggestions?
Thank you

  • You might not want to lie but sometimes you really are busy. So politely say well I have laundry waiting or I love talking to you but let's finish this another time. You are not being rude but a busy mom!

  • Just tell them your child is getting into something and you have to go. Or my favorite is "OH I'm sorry but my daughter just had an accident, I gotta get going"

  • Tell her your child(ren) need you, your SO is calling, you have an errand to run, or some variation!

  • 1. Sorry hon, but I really have to go. I've been holding it forever and I'm going to explode!
    2. I'm late for an appointment, can we talk another time?
    3. Super busy today! I'll call you back later.

  • I just hang up then act like the call was dropped when i call back later.

Sometimes before i hang up i act like there is a problem...Hello? Hello? Are you still there? Or i just hang up in the middle of a sentence.

    Childish? Perhaps. Effective? Totally.

  • My hubs ex-step sis was like that-- once she got you on the phone that was it, she would not get the hint. Sometimes I would open the door and then ring my bell and say "gotta go, someones at the door".
