Does anyone else have a toddler who just doesn't want to feed himself with a spoon?

My son is 22 months and just isn't interested yet. He will feed himself finger foods, just not with utensils. Also, if we put more than one thing on his plate, he'll just shove it all into his mouth. We've tried telling him to take bites, but he just wants to eat it all.

I just feel like he's way behind where he should be, but I'm also a first-time mom so I'm not sure what's normal.

  • It's part of his development to eat like this. You have to just keep SHOWING him how to eat with a fork or spoon. He doesn't have the eye hand coordination needed to use a utensil. He will learn.

  • My oldest is 8 and I am still telling him to use his fork/spoon! He is still young, give him time!

  • Felipe preferred his hands to any other eating utensil for quite a while. He still does sometimes. No worries, just keep offering it! :o)
