if you are unmarried and a homeowner (w/ SO)

SO and I would like to own a home. In fact, we are awaiting a phone call from the bank sometime today for the pre-qualification process! He and I aren't married and I have heard from some people that it will be more difficult to get the whole homebuyer process done since we aren't married...is this true? Wouldn't that be considered biased?

  • It shouldn't be any different. Both your names will be on the loan and the deed. It's no different than a parent and child going together to buy a car.

  • thanks jademom! I wonder if what i'm hearing is just bias from the advice-givers themselves.

  • Shouldn't be any problems at all. Marriage is not a requirement.
