Good Posture

I am in my late 40's and am constantly working on my posture throughout the day, but no matter how much effort I make I always find myself slouching again. As a kid my folks were always telling me to sit up straight. I never took any modeling or dancing classes of any kind. A friend of mine who used to be a ballerina and has super posture said that maintaining good posture is actually easier than having bad posture (to which I think, huh??!!). Are there exercises that help with posture? Is there an easy way to prevent myself from slouching? Am I missing something here?

  • I was in physical therapy last year and they gave me grief about my posture so I have been working on it. I end up slouching too but have to keep reminding myself to hold my head up and shoulders back. It feels so unnatural but I will keep doing it until I get it right! Sitting at the computer too long gets me in trouble. So I get up and move around more often pulling my shoulders back

  • I also have bad posture.
Pilates and yoga can help a lot with posture.

  • I think posture has to do with self esteem's a mental thing, not just a physical thing (or so i've heard). I've got bad posture chiropractor said both bones and muscles cause bad posture....I would just keep working at it, and maybe exersize a bit more.

  • Yeah, I pull my shoulders back too. I also stretch which always feels good and so does lying on the floor. Thanks, gals!
