When you cook, do you use a meat thermometer to temp your food?

Or do you just go by sight? I always went by sight until about 6 years ago when my job had me take a food safety class. Now, I'm pretty anal about the food reaching the correct temp. My restaurant grade thermometer is my favorite thing in the kitchen :-)

  • We use a thermometer. Originally just because we were trying to figure out if our oven temp was off, but now we use it for everything because things come out so much more consistently.

  • LOL! My husband teaches the food safety course, so he makes me temp things, although we still eat steaks medium, and tuna rare. He was a food nazi when I was pregnant- he was stricter than my doctor!!!!! No hot dogs, no lunch meat, etc.

  • Like you, I have also worked in food service and taken food safety training. You bet your booty I temp every time. I used to not, but for about seven years now, I have. My husband also worked in food service and took food safety training, so he uses the thermometer just as much as I do.

  • No, I don't. I think I did once on Thanksgiving when my turkey didn't have a popper thing for when it was done.

  • I always use the thermometer. I'm fairly new to cooking, and I'm super paranoid that meat won't be thoroughly cooked, lol.
