i want to learn more about Meconium Aspiration

I'd love some books or links to reliable and credible information about Meconium. I know a decent bit about childbirth already but it's time for me to start getting specific, i think. (for those who don't know. i've never given birth)

So, what do you know about meconium and can you provide me a resource which backs up your knowledge?

  • Have you perused this site's expert's posts? There is good stuff in the MWery/UC groups, I recall.

  • My firstborn had meconium staining.  We had the NICU in the delivery room when she was born.  They immediately suctioned her with a small tube (not the bulb syringe) as soon as her head was out, and she was passed off to the NICU team.  She never left the delivery room, and her first and second APGARS were a 9.  She had zero issues, didn't receive any antibiotics, and the NICU left the room after her second APGARS were assessed.  My 2nd DD who was 3 days later than my first, had no meconium staining, so this doesn't happen in ALL overdue babies.

  • I don't believe i'm in those groups. But i did ask a similar question in Natural Pregnancy and Childbirth but haven't gotten a response yet.

  • When my water broke, there was meconium present but my daughter didn't aspirate any. My nephew was held in NICU for 24 hours due to meconium aspiration, but he's now a happy, healthy, smart 6 year old boy with no issues.
