I have garden green beans I want to use in green bean casserole. How do I prepare it so the beans are not soggy?

I usually use the canned beans but want to make it with them from the garden. Do I just add them in as the directions say on the can of fried onions? I didn't think that would be enough cooking time?

  • You need to steam or blanch (cook in boiling water, immediately drain & cool) them until they're just fork tender. They won't be soggy.

  • Yes use the direction on the can of FO. You can always microwave some more if they are to crisp

  • Steaming vegetables keeps them from getting soggy. It can be done in a microwave if you have one.
