Why is the NAACP still called that?

Am i the only one that thinks it's tacky to call yourself the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People? I guess they just go by the acronym now, but hello..

or did they change what it means and I just can't find it?

  • Probably since they have a reputation based on that name. It certainly seems old fashioned now.

  • It sure is a lot better then what they were called in my younger days.

I remember when even presidents would call them the N word.

  • I grew up using the term "colored people". They were offended if you said black person. It is just an evolution of terms, but the black community chooses to keep it that way. I think there is some tradition to it.

  • Maybe it is a reminder of what they were labeled....
