  • Not to get all caught up in the maketing of baby products. Regular lotions work better, are less expensive, and often don't come with the cute baby fresh smell that is an irritant to a new born's skin. Baby towels and wash cloths are nice but a baby isn't a baby for long. So when you go to buy towels for baby - make them plush and soft adult versions so that even at three years old you and your baby can use them. But gear that lasts and can be used at multiple stages. A car seat that can go from birth to booster will save on the budget. Decorate a room for a growing child. Cute baby things are only good for a year.

  • If the baby is crying and crying and crying and you're starting to really stress, put the baby down and go in another room for 1-2 minutes and just try to calm down. Usually once you're calm the baby will calm down as well.

  • paper plates and frozen meals were a life saver for me!

Sleep when baby sleeps! Grouchy mommy from lack of sleep is no good for anyone! The dishes or laundry can wait while you nap too!

  • Expect anything and be flexible.

  • Enjoy it! Take comfort in comforting them, even when they are fussy or high maintenance. They don't stay that little for long and the bond you form now will only grow with time.

  • Relax! Not everything can go perfectly, and nothing really will. Don't expect anything. Follow your baby's cues. And always always always leave the house with a change of clothes and 2 more diapers than you think you need.
