Did you know epidurals are derived from cocaine?

And some (such as the walking epidural) also have opium narcotics.
I had no clue! Guess i could have figured it out if i thought about it.

  • All I can say, is after having an epi, I can totally understand the nations problem with cocaine if that's true. :-)

  • Yep, I did know that... And guess what... It's still better than 16 hours of hard labor - I'll take the epi any day!

  • I didn't know that but I'm not at all addicted, it took the pain away though! I loved it!

  • all pain killing drugs have to come from something like that... that's how it was discovered that they could use this stuff to kill pain in a controlled dose and setting, and not just get high.... if you know what I mean. I LOVED my two epi's.... wouldn't have had it any other way!!!! ;o)

  • weird.. i felt totally different on my epi than years ago when i did coke.. Hm.

  • WOW really? And they willingly give this to pregnant women? Really makes you think about things huh?

Answer by LiLJeni at 2:02 AM on Jul. 18, 2010

  • Yep, I knew that.

It cracks me up how moms get so pissed off at each other if someone admits to having a drink or smoking a joint during pregnancy but they accept epidurals and IV narcotics during labor like there's no tomorrow, up to 90% in some hospitals!

  • I didn't know that. I had an epi with my DD. It was great and when I have #2, I'll probably get an epi then too!
