Very unsure what to do....

We have managed to save enough money to take our son on a weekend trip and I have no one to care for my 2 little dogs and really can't afford the board them plus they have very bad seperation anxiaty. Not sure what to do they are great travelors and love to go but we are going to be exploring a new city and can't take them everywhere we go while there. Is it ok to leave them in the hotel or what are some advice or what have you done in the past?

  • You should be socializing them on a regular bases, so that you can board them with ease. How about having family or friend take care of them at your home. Checking on them, feeding/watering them and walking them twice a day.

  • Have you checked into pet sitters who might take the dogs to their home? You can look for pet sitters in the yellow pages and also at care.com and sittercity.com I don't know what they charge compared to a kennel. And of course you have to check out their references. Just one idea.......................

  • when we moved we had to stay in a pet friendly hotel with our cat, dog and bird... well the dog who NEVER barks (seriously) barked ALL day when we were out house shopping... she barked so bad the hotel called us and we had to come back.... not fun to get that call....

  • If it is only for the weekend, couldn't you leave them at home? I mean leave extra food and water and puppy pads?

  • lots of neighbourhood teens would love to do something like that if you knew any you could trust and pay a small fee to.....but if they travel well, you can find some hotels who are pet friendly....just call them and find out what their policy is on leaving them in the room...i'd also request that nobody enter the room while you are out because you don't want the liability if your dogs bit them, or if they SAID your dogs did something wrong.....
oh, and in response to an above reply, please, no don't ever leave your dogs at home for that long....just cruel ! obviously since you're asking i doubt you would ! cats, fine, not dogs !

  • Call ahead to see if there are pet friendly hotels and what their policies are. If you can take them with you, do it. If not, you could see if a local trusted neighbor could come to your home to care for them. I do pet sitting and go over to feed, water, and play with dogs up to three times a day. Many dogs are more comfortable at home in their own space.

  • Either find a pet-friendly hotel and take them with you, or if you can't take them, get someone to come by your house a couple times a day to feed, potty, and play with them. Please do not just leave them at home with enough food for a couple of days like the other poster suggested. Most likely they would just eat all the food at once, then get sick, THEN not have anything to eat for the rest of the time you're gone!
