if you crochet purses....

I am interested in crocheting some hand bags/purses w/ old belts as the straps, but I'm not sure how i would attach the belt to the yarn? I mean since most belts only have a latch at one end? What do you do? If you don't use belts for the straps, what do YOU use?

  • take an awl and punch holes in the belt, then using yarn, sew through the holes you made and the purse to attach it.

I personally just make the handle out of more yarn.

  • oh ok! By an awl, you mean a grommet puncher type of thing?

  • I have made purse handles with the yarn, but I'd like to experiment with different styles.

  • yeah, a heavy duty grommet punch will work too :) heck, I've been known to use a screw driver in a pinch LOL

  • I use bamboo or acrylic handles. You could find way to attach the belt to a standard "D"" ring.
