  • Many colleges have a SW program. Contact your local school or check one online and see what classes need to be taken for it.

  • I went to college and received my MSW.
Took 6 years to do so. To get into a MSW program in some colleges/universities you must already have a BS in social work or liberal arts.
Depending on what type of social work you want to do, and in what area of social work you would prefer to work in,, would determine what level of degree you would need, if any at all.

  • Doesn't it require that you first remove said heart and any kind of emotional sympathy you might have for people? Oh and then you can go to school.

I giggled reading that.. But I will not lie. There's definitely some truth in the jest.

I worked in the field 20 odd years. And yes. If one does not emotionally detach themselves from the job. It will kill you (figuratively and literally.... lol) in many ways.. That's one of the hardest parts of the job to be totally honest.

  • Depending on what you want to do in Social Work, you need to get atleast a BSW and most places want a MSW. Talk to a 4 year college about what the requirements are for your state and the area you want to pursue.

That is just wrong. Not all social workers are cruel and heartless. Stop and think about what social workers have to do. They have the hardest job ever. They have to investigate parents and determine what is best for the child and the family. If a social worker doesn't leave the emotions in check, they will burn out and be heartbroken in a matter of a few years. If you think you can do a better job, then go to school for 6 years and then do their job.

Also, not all social workers are in CPS, they could be in a hospital or nursing home setting helping families deal with a loved ones death, they could be counselors helping children cope with all sorts of problems. They could also work for the courts or attorneys helping children who have to testify in court, they could work in funeral homes to help the bereaved plan a loved ones funeral.

    Try researching before commenting.
