14 mo with bad seperation anxiety, help!

i just started back to work this last week and of course the seperation anxiety has begun. i need some tips on the best way to handle it at night? he has been a great sleeper up until now, always went right to bed. now as soon as i go to put him in the crib he just starts screaming and thrashing around. he will scream bloody murder if i do not go back in and pick him up and i know i am not supposed to or he will continue to do this. how do i get threw this, it breaks my heart to hear him this way.

  • Are you working at night, or he is throwing fits at night because you are gone during the day?

  • If he is throwing fits at night because you are gone during the day then I would sleep with him. He needs you and he isn't getting you through the day so make up for it with night time contact. If you walk away from him you aren't doing your child any favours. Get through it by being there for him at night and hopefully this will help him cope with you gone through the day...he needs time to adjust and he needs to know you will be there when you are about..i.e. at night when he goes to bed.

  • Snuggle him longer for a while...it's hard for them to adjust, it really is.
