Does melatonin really work?

Hey Ladies,

I have taken melatonin twice and is wondering if it really works. I have read you have to take it for at least a week. I have also heard it gives you nightmare. Could anyone enlighten me?

  • My husband had a bad experience... He "saw" someone at the end of the bed.
    Now I take the 1mg sublingual.
    Worked the first night I took it.

    It's not supposed to knock you out a la sleeping pill.

    If you take too much, you can wake up tired and groggy.

  • I use it most very nite, it works for me. No nightmares, just very vivid movie like real like dreams

  • My son takes it. He can't un wind and sl eep with out it. His ped and psychologist recommend it. You can tell when we run out and he has missed his 'pills' It works for him. NO loading dose or anything. It is a hormone you body naturally makes ti get sleepy. So it's short term but effective.

  • Melatonin is a hormone produced by your body when you are in the dark. People who work nights benefit the most from it.

    I use valerian root as a sleep aid. Valerian is hops (as in beer)

  • it didn't for me.. instead it KEPT me all night long and gave me a weird headache
