Should I give a paci now?

My breastfed almost two year old has been begging for a paci. He has never had a paci. I'm really confused by this sudden interest. I think it may be a stepping stone for weaning from the breast, but again really unsure.

  • My children never showed an interest in the paci and it was nice because I never had to teach them to stop using one once they were older :o)

  • I would not at this point. Many parents of toddlers are trying to figure out how to get rid of the paci (or the thumb, fingers, etc…) at this point. I would offer him a special blanket or animal to cuddle with instead.

  • I agree with the other posters. It's a bad habit to start now. I would tell him big boys don't use paci's and see if that works.
