Can i take benadryl when nursing?

I got a mosquito bite on the eye and i've always been very allergic to them. Right now, my whole eyelid and bottom of eye is red and swollen to the point that i can't open it. I normally take benedryl for the swelling but now that im nursing, i don't noe if i can. Anyone else have severe reactions to mosquito bites? Any other treatments i can try? Thx!

  • If it was me I would take the benadryl... but to be safe...it wouldn't hurt to call and ask your pharmacist.

  • Yes, but try to nurse just before taking it to minimize how much passes. And I have heard of people having terrible reactions to mosquitoes. My 3 year old daughter has horrible reactions and seems to attract them too :(

  • If you have to, yes. But any antihistamine will dry up your milk supply temporarily, so I would feed prior to taking it.
