is Styrofoam recyclable?

I have some packing material that came with some furniture I ordered. I know it doesn't biodegrade, so can I put it in my recycling can?

  • Different companies have different standards on what they accept. For example, before we moved, our trash service allowed glass containers in the recycling bin, so I was able to throw salsa jars and whatnot in there. Our new service does not allow glass. So your best bet may be to get on your service's website or call them and ask if you want to know for sure.

  • If you have a UPS Store nearby, they will take packing peanuts donations.
Otherwise, most curbside recycling only will take glass (clear, green, brown), cardboard, Number 1 and 2 plastics, and newspaper. They won't take Styrofoam.

  • I believe that it is, but our city doesn't recycle it, so they won't take it. Depends on what your city recycles.

  • check your city reclining laws. it normally says what can be recycled. normally it doesn't

  • Generally no, bu thte only way to find out is to ask the City. They may not do curbside pick up but it might be possible that if it IS recyclable that you may be able to drop it off somewhere.

  • I would call your recycling center/city trash office and ask but I HIGHLY doubt it.
