Does "butter divided" mean melted or cut up into tablespoons?

  • Keep reading through the recipe, it should give you two (or three) uses for the butter, and give amounts for each use, and that's how you divide it. For example, if the recipe say 1 cup. butter, divided, then down in the instructions it'll say use 1/3 cup butter for this, and 2/3 cup for that. Those together equal the cup. That's the same with anything that has divided after it in an ingredient list.
