fever wont go away

hi guys, my 2 year old son was sent home from day care today with a temp of 104 i instantly took him to doc. by the time we got there his fever was at 99. the doc tested for strep and sent us home saying its just a cold to give him musinex melt aways and tylenol/motrin for the fever. i have been doing this all day but he still has a fever staying at 101 what should i do?

  • Continue the meds every 4 to 6 hrs or whatever the instructions say. Put him in a cool bath tongiht bf bed. He may have an ear infection..

  • Give it a few days to go away. A fever is nature's way of fighting infection. It may have been so in the first place due to the heat. 101 after a dose of tylenol or motrin is fine. It's when he is running 104 after an hour on a fever reducer that you really need to worry.

Make sure he stays cool and push fluids. If he is reluctant to drink, offer popsicles and ice cream. And if he still has a fever on Monday, call the doctor again.

  • if he seems spacey and weird I would check his temperature again those can be signs of a high fever. He could just be super tired but better safe than sorry.

  • If his eyes are droopy and he's spacing out a lot I would bring him to the ER. Do you notice him just staring? My son had a fever, and would "space out" and I took him in. They found he was having petit mal seizures (absense seizures)
