  • If i recall correctly a few schools here have, theyre doing a test run with it! They said it helped out a TON! Kids had access to internet for research and could chat with teachers for homework help! problem that came from it.....Some one at school saw a child at home, via web cam doing something (forgive me i dont remember what), but he ended up in trouble at school from it! NOW, last time i checked ou shouldnt be able to get introuble detintion iss suspension or other from something you did AT HOME! and NO ONE should have been connected to that childs webcam to watch him without notice!

  • the article tells you. the technical schools produced the product and researched it and the government paid for it.
Just how much more do you want to add the National Debt when the U.S. government starts paying for free laptops to kids?
    Entitlement minds anyone? OY!!!
Some things...you have to earn. That's the WHOLE POINT of going to college..................

  • So because I have been in a bad habit of answering questions and beating around the bush...I will answer your question...
Why don't they do this here?
Because your U.S. government is to tied to paybacks and kickbacks a free laptop for kids in college would eventually cost the taxpayer around 4 grand to produce each one...kinda like the $400 NASA wrenches and toilet seats. And we aint got no more money Older!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The average wage in India (from what I found) is $145 a month. That breaks down to about .90 cents an hour.

  • If we paid workers 90 cents an hour or LESS, a $35 computer would be doable.

Remember, if $145 is average, 50% of the population makes less than that.

  • Ahem...I ten dollar laptop is basically free. And it won't cost ten dollars here. I bet if you do a cost comparison with Dell's new little laptop the price would work out about right anyway. And it probably has more features

  • Older...just a quick question....How much do you think they paid everyone involved to produce this laptop? Just a stab in the dark I would be happy with this morning. And...if they paid a decent wage/amount..how much was gov't subsidized?
