  • I really think it's only in this country that kids are potty trained so late. Everywhere else I've ever lived most kids were trained around 1 year old and some before. I know I was potty trained before a year, and my brother just after. Now that's not to say my kids trained that early but it's not the norm elsewhere.

Then there's the whole Elimination Communication that I think is really neat. I don't have the patience for it, but the women who have done it with their kids are really awesome IMO.

  • I think it's the parents that are trained, not the child. My son has a typical schedule for doing #2. But what happens if he eats something a bit more cleansing? He goes off schedule. So will these little ones that are so called "potty trained".

  • I see no need to potty train until they can walk to the bathroom themselves, get up onto the toilet, and take care of everything. If I have to cary them over to the toilet that is just more work for me... that isnt potty trained.

  • It's not really too early. Parents in many other countries put their kids on the potty at 6 months. In the 1940's and 50's the average age for potty training here was 18 months.

However, I think that some of the reasons for doing it here are purely competitive. Moms all seem to want to outdo each other these days. I personally never cared or paid attention to what other moms were doing, and I still don't.

  • Yeah 18 months is resonable but, 6 months, are you kidding?
