does teething/cutting teeth cause an increase in baby spit up??

I heard it does but i wanted to check...my son is cutting his first tooth and he is spitting up more...so i wanted to know if there is a correlation between the two and if there is do any of you know why???

  • Yes, it is common for teething babies to drool tons and spit up more. Our pediatrician said it has something to do with the fact that they ARE drooling so much and swallowing extra saliva, and it's kind of a way to get rid of that.

  • It did for my daughter who was not a "refunder" as I called her. Once she started teething, she spit up a few times.

  • All that spit upsets the tummy. Have you ever noticed that you get an upset stomach when you swallow a lot more spit and other muck when you have a cold? Same thing.
