Why would Jesus or Mary wish to make an appearance on someone's toast some morning?

There is a name for this phenomenon: pareidolia. Humans are pattern-seeking animals and sometimes we see patterns that we think are real objects when, in fact, they are not patterns at all.

Given how mundane and common this phenomenon is, why don't people first assume that the things they are seeing are merely the product of pattern-recognition aspects of their brain rather than a supernatural message?

  • nothing wrong with giving themselves hope, and if more than one person sees it, maybe it's not a pattern at all.

  • LOL

I remember finding faces in the sponge painted walls of my grandparents house. Never once considered any of them miracles. It's like finding shapes in the clouds.

and besides, all we know of Jesus and Mary is artists renderings that aren't even accurate! It's not like there are photos or paintings from their actual time here, so no one is actually seeing Jesus or Mary.

  • That's just crazy... but, really- people are crazy, I'm not sure the Jesus shaped Cheeto is leading people astray as much as other things.
