Is it true that during a vaginal delivery, everyone poops?

The horror stories are flooding me with disbelief and one of them is gushing out a big ole turd before my spectators as I delivery my baby. Now I heard different things, but all in all, everyone poops when they delivery their babies vaginally because they are told to "push like you're having a bowel movement!" So did you poop? and if not, why not?

  • I didn't with my 1st four, only the last one, and it wasn't huge, just little bits. The doctor covered them up immediately because baby was crowning. No one made any fuss about it and at that point in the birth I just didn't care.

  • I did, but some doctors will recommend an enema right before delivery especially if mom is overly worried about it.

  • I was so drugged and numb, I only noticed a light pressure when SHE came out! I have no idea if I pooped or not. I asked my husband and my mom but they say they don't know. Really? You were staring at my down there parts for how long and you don't know?
I don't really care. The baby came out, everything else is just static noise. :-)
Like a PP said, I'm sure the nurses have seen it before and even worse.

  • There is NO such thing as "everyone" ANYthing with labor!
    ;-)

Yes, many women do and it's soooo normal, even expected. But no big deal if you do or don't.

  • i don't know whether i did or not. i don't really consider pooping in labor to be a horror story but try not to listen to people's horror stories!!! only listen to positive birth stories. ;)

  • not everybody does but if there is poop in your bowel when you're delivering ther's a good chance it's coming out cause everything else down there is coming out
