I'm sorry i have never heard of a parent doing this to their infants...

flicking them in the cheek when they bite ....

an infant?

ive never really heard of this and would never imagine doing this to my infants.

am i the only one? or is this a usual thing?

  • i have never heard of that either. My boys were always chewing on my fingers and that thought never once crossed my mind. IMO that is just wrong.

  • um...that's kinda stupid. I know infants respond to pain, but I don't think you could usefully 'train' an infant by flicking their cheek....sounds a bit odd, but I've never used that....babies are gonna bite while nursing, just deal with it...if it hurts too much, bottle feed pumped milk. That's what I did- :)

  • If you can train an infant through negative physical reinforcement, you can do it with simple words and gentle action "No bite" and pull the child off.

  • I have heard of thumping infants on the forehead but not the cheek for biting. Cheyenne and Ute tribes,(and probably many others) schooled infants not to cry by thumping the forehead. A crying infant could give away their position to enemies. This was a very long time ago. Pre-reservations. If I saw someone today flick or thump an infant anywhere, but especially the face I would probably not be able to keep my mouth shut.
