What are some commonly asked questions asked during an interview?

I have a job interview tomorrow to be a server at Dos Gringos which is a Bar/Cantina. It's pretty laid back and i wouldnt say NOT professional, but just more laid back.

What questions should i expect to be asked during my interview? I just like to be prepared.

  • Why are you interested in working for us?
What will you do if your kid is sick while you are at work and we really need you here? Do you have back up?

  • Is it a chain restaurant?
You will be asked to sell a particular item off the menu. If they have a website, go and learn a couple of menu items.
do not say, i've never eaten here.
they may ask why you love the restaurant.
whether or not you have reliable transportation.
what a good reason is to call off work.
    what other experience you have
    why you left other jobs
why you are a good choice

why you think you are a good choice for the restaurant (hint..I'm a people person" is very generic and scores low.)
Wear neat, pressed clothes that fit well, but no heels if possible. you may be asked to "tour" the restaurant and meet some of the other servers.

It's key to be professional, high energy, and engaging, without crossing the line into being annoying. Offer the manager a firm handshake, be on time, and walk at the same pace they do. con't

  • what would you do if you saw someone stealing,
what kind of things are you involved with in your community
how would you describe your personality
do people look up to you
    are you a leader

Managers have a grid your answers fall in usually, and they assign point values to each answer.

Best answers are descriptive. Remember, servers are now mostly salespeople and you are selling yourself.
again this is what is usual for chain type restaurants. Privately owned restaurants are not nearly so intense.
